About Taro Brand

Founded in 1946 by Kakuichi Tottori, the Honolulu Poi Company began as a humble three-employee poi milling operation with a vision to support local agriculture and preserve a cornerstone of Hawaiian culture. Over the decades, the family-run business grew steadily, with each generation of the Tottori family expanding its offerings beyond poi to include sprouts and fresh-cut vegetables.

In 1990, the company rebranded as HPC Foods, Ltd., while continuing to operate as Hawaiʻi’s largest poi manufacturer — producing over 30,000 pounds of poi per week. Today, the fourth generation leads a team of more than 180 employees, carrying forward the founder’s mission to support local farmers and perpetuate poi for generations to come.
