HONOLULU (HI Now) - Every tackle, fall and hard hit matters for Hawaii families who love sports.
The Hawaii Concussion Awareness and Management Program, known as HCAMP, is helping parents, coaches and athletes understand concussions and respond with confidence.
Dean Nathan Murata from the College of Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa joins HI Now Daily to share how education and local research are making sports safer across the islands.
HCAMP supports high schools, youth leagues and community programs with evidence-based education, resources and support for both the physically active community and the medical community.
The team studies concussions in Hawaii athletes to learn how injuries happen and how recovery can improve. That work also connects to the classroom through Return to Learn, which helps students get the academic support they need while healing.
