HONOLULU (HI Now) - The Hawaii United Okinawa Association works to promote, perpetuate, and preserve Okinawan culture in Hawaii, and the annual festival serves as its largest fundraiser of the year.
This weekend, the local community can support this important cultural mission while enjoying an incredible lineup of interactive events, cultural displays, and delicious cuisine.
To make this year even more memorable, the festival has partnered with Executive Chef Brooke Tadena from Prince Waikiki. Chef Tadena is bringing a creative, modern twist to the gathering with a unique culinary experience. Visitors can look forward to the signature House of Sakura pop-up, which will transform into an Okinawan-inspired izakaya right inside the convention center.
Guests can feast on innovative dishes that blend traditional local favorites with rich Okinawan flavors. The special menu features Okinawan poke nachos topped with shredded shoyu pork, torched A5 Kagoshima Wagyu beef nigiri brushed with sweet tare, and Okinawan mazesoba noodles served with an onsen egg and savory dashi sauce.
