HONOLULU (HI Now) - Keeping the incredible legacy of Hawaii’s greatest waterman alive is at the very heart of Waikiki’s most vibrant summer tradition.
The Duke Kahanamoku OceanFest returns to the shores of Kuhio Beach to honor Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who is remembered globally as the ultimate ambassador of Aloha. This dynamic beach festival does more than celebrate historic ocean sports, as it actively shapes the future of Hawaii student athletes.
Proceeds from the legendary gathering benefit the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation, which provides vital college scholarships and athletic grants to local youth.
This year, the ocean action comes alive with a spectacular variety of events that were close to Duke’s heart. Spectators can gather near the iconic Duke Statue to witness surfing, tandem wave riding, surf polo, beach volleyball, and intense lifeguard challenges.
A crowd favorite is the dog surfing competition, featuring talented local pets riding the waves. Young surfers like eleven year old Julie Arcand and her grumpy fourteen year old chihuahua mix Luke are taking to the water to showcase their incredible bond and passion for the sport.

The massive nine day event is made possible by a small, dedicated team and the support of the local corporate community, including the Outrigger Resorts Hotels Legends Surf Invitational.
