HONOLULU (HI Now) - There are Sundays, and then there are Kamaʻāina Sundays, the kind that remind you why Hawaiʻi feels like home. ʻIolani Palace is inviting local residents to spend a day reconnecting with culture, community, and stories that still shape the islands today, all in a setting that carries deep history and meaning.
Hosted by The Friends of ʻIolani Palace, Kamaʻāina Sunday is a free monthly event held every second Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is designed to make the ‘Iolani Palace feel welcoming and alive with experiences you can actually take part in, from lively performances to local food, vendors, and cultural demonstrations that bring ʻike to the present.
Expect a full lineup of entertainment, including hula performances and live music. Families can also jump into keiki and cultural activities like kupeʻe making, knot tying, mini canoe model building, and storytelling with voyaging and star compass demonstrations.
Planning to go early is key, self led audio tours are available for the first 500 attendees, with one complimentary ticket per Hawaiʻi resident. Bring a valid Hawaiʻi State ID, Hawaiʻi driver’s license, or proof of Hawaiʻi residency, and get ready for an easy, meaningful way to spend the day in the heart of Honolulu.
Learn more and plan your visit at The Friends of ʻIolani Palace website or on their Instagram, and share your day using #KamaainaSunday for a chance to be featured.
