HONOLULU (HI Now) - A record-breaking milestone for Hawaii Meals on Wheels – and a growing need for community support!
Hawaii Meals on Wheels has reached a historic milestone of 100 meal delivery routes across Oahu! The nonprofit now delivers approximately 800 meals daily, expanding into previously underserved communities like Koolauloa and reaching more homebound kupuna than ever before.
But with every new route comes a need for more helping hands. HMoW relies on approximately 300 dedicated volunteers who deliver much more than nutritious meals. Every visit brings a friendly conversation, a wellness check, and the reassurance that someone cares. Michelle Cordero-Lee, Hawaii Meals on Wheels CEO, and meal delivery volunteer, Kainalu Hecomovich, joins HI Now Live to share his experience and the meaningful connections made along the way. Just one hour a week can make a tremendous difference in a kupuna’s life!

HMoW invites the community to support its 7th Annual Malama Our Kupuna Thanksgiving Drive-Thru Fundraiser on November 26! For $250, supporters receive a delicious, ready-to-eat Thanksgiving feast for eight, prepared by A Catered Experience, with pickup at the Hawaii Okinawa Center from 9 a.m. to noon.
