HONOLULU (HI Now) - About six weeks into command, Commander Rear Admiral Rich Jarrett is focused on listening, learning and building lasting ties between the Navy and local communities. His early weeks have centered on visiting installations, meeting sailors, civilians and families, and hearing what matters most to the people who live and serve here.
The timing carries added meaning as the U.S. Navy celebrates its 251st birthday this month. The milestone honors generations of service while recognizing the sailors, civilians and families carrying that work forward today in Hawaii. It is also a moment to thank community and state partners who support readiness, safety and resilience across the islands.
Looking ahead, Jarrett points to clear priorities for Navy Region Hawaii, including installation readiness, quality of life, resilient infrastructure, environmental stewardship and dependable community relationships. That work includes attention to barracks conditions and installation resilience, along with care for natural and cultural resources.
Jarett says residents can expect visible leadership, clearer communication and follow through, with close coordination alongside state, county and community partners on emergency preparedness and long term stewardship.
