HONOLULU (HI Now) - Akemi Hiatt is currently building OurSpace, leading a non-profit makerspace for local creatives, innovators, and small businesses. Led by the Board, she joined as Executive Director in launching the organization’s new location and programs in the heart of Kaka’ako, which include creative studio space, advanced tools and makerspace equipment, training, events, exhibitions, residencies, and more.
Originally from Āhualoa on the Big Island, her background melds art, business, marketing, and technology. For the last 10+ years, she served as design strategist and co-owner of Hidden Gears, a boutique e-commerce agency that scaled over 200 founder-led brands online. Prior, she held Marketing Director and Program roles at arts organizations in New York, including the Center for Photography at Woodstock, Art Omi, and Basilica Hudson.
