Leading in Classrooms, Partnering in Communities Discover how Teach For America Hawaii alums are connecting education and community health to empower local students and families in Waianae.

HONOLULU (HI Now) - From leading in classrooms to partnering in communities, these two Teach for America Hawaiʻi alums are making a difference in Waiʻanae.

When students have access to both supportive learning environments and reliable healthcare, they can truly thrive. This deep connection drives the collaboration between Teach For America Hawaii and the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.

Denise Della-Sabas and Kealohilani Leleo are bringing this vision to life. Denise, a former teacher and community advocate, discovered how classroom leadership translates into vital health initiatives. Meanwhile, Kealohilani, a proud Waianae High School graduate, returned to her alma mater to teach special education math and is working as a summer fellow to coordinate resources for her students.

Kealohilani is organizing the upcoming ten year anniversary event and leading a creative logo design contest. To learn more about these educational opportunities and how to get involved, visit the Teach For America Hawaii website or follow them on Instagram @tfahawaii.
