HONOLULU (HI Now) - Crystal Thornburg-Homcy is an accomplished longboarder and all-around ocean athlete who races outrigger canoes, competes in long-distance swims and paddleboard races, kayaks, bodysurfs, and freedives.
Thornburg-Homcy graduated from Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra and continued on to Chaminade University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Fine Arts.
After being featured in numerous surf films, she went on to become an award-winning filmmaker, directing and producing the 16mm films Beyond the Surface and Sliding into the Light.
Thornburg-Homcy has worked with numerous nonprofits and environmental organizations, including the Audubon Society at Waimea Valley, Conservation Patagonia, Save Our Seas, Surfrider Foundation, Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation and The North Shore Community Land Trust, among others.
