HONOLULU (HI Now) - Every single life lost to impaired driving is a completely preventable tragedy, yet Hawaii recently reached a devastating peak with 129 traffic fatalities in a single year. Families across the islands are coming together to turn grief into action, raising awareness to bring that number down to zero. By walking together, the community sends a powerful message that we refuse to let drunk driving claim more lives on our roads.
To support this vital mission, Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hawaii is hosting its annual signature fundraiser, Move with MADD, on Saturday, September 12 at Kakaako Waterfront Park. This family-friendly 5K walk features a lively Zumba warm-up, performances by Celtic Pipe and Drum, youth cheer teams, and a deeply moving memorial activity. Participants can also win exciting prizes, including inter-island trips, hotel gift cards, and local dining certificates, while raising funds that stay entirely in Hawaii.
Check-in for the morning walk begins at 7 AM, with the 5K starting at 8 AM, and the awards ceremony concluding the event by 9:30 AM. This year, the organization hopes to raise $125,000 to fund critical local victim advocacy services and educational programs.
