HONOLULU (HI Now) - Lace up and show up for a cause at the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaiʻi’s Freedom Run/Walk, happening Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Kailua High School in Kailua.
This professionally timed community event features a 10K, 5K, and a 1‑Mile Awareness Walk—bringing together families, friends, and supporters to raise epilepsy awareness and fund local programs that serve an estimated 14,000 people in Hawaiʻi living with epilepsy, including about 2,000 keiki.
Check-in begins at 5:30 a.m., and the event starts at 7:00 a.m. sharp. The 5K and 10K are chip‑timed by Timeline Hawaiʻi. Adult timed-run registration is $50 and includes a race shirt while supplies last, and youth timed-run registration is $25 with a youth race shirt while supplies last.
While the 1‑Mile Awareness Walk is FREE, the Foundation asks that walkers register in advance so you’ll receive an official event bib and be recognized as part of the movement to raise epilepsy awareness. Walkers can also purchase a commemorative event shirt for $15 while supplies last.
Arrive early for a boost—there’s a FREE Zumba warm‑up with Hawaiʻi’s own ZIN™ MJ Tuvera‑Takemoto starting at 6:30 a.m. No experience needed—just come ready to move.

Race day is packed with fun for all ages: sponsor booths, games, health education, and costume contests like Most Purple, Best Superhero, and Best Dressed Pet—plus awards for top runners, top fundraisers, and most spirited teams. There are also fundraising incentives, with prizes starting at $150 raised.
Another big goal this year is encouraging teachers, school staff, and the community to sign up for the Foundation’s FREE Seizure First Aid Training. Seizures are among the top three medical emergencies in schools, and the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaiʻi is launching expanded training opportunities statewide, including the neighbor islands. New this year, be sure to visit the Pet Oasis and meet Toco, Hawaiʻi’s epilepsy service dog ambassador—named after Valtoco®, a rescue medication used during seizure emergencies. Toco represents hope, independence, and unconditional love, and you can learn about epilepsy service dogs and pet seizure safety.
Also new: the Official 2026 Freedom Run Pet Bandana, designed in partnership with The Sophia Collection—available for $15 during registration, and picked up at the Pet Oasis on race day. Every purchase supports epilepsy education, advocacy, and local programs across Hawaiʻi.
