HONOLULU (HI Now) - Skyline is celebrating three years of service, and it’s quickly becoming a go to ride for Oahu residents and visitors. The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services say the nation’s first fully automated elevated rail is helping connect people to jobs, schools, and everyday destinations with a ride that feels easy, dependable, and modern.
Since opening on June 30, 2023, Skyline has welcomed more than 5 million riders across 13 stations running from East Kapolei to Kalihi. Ridership continues to grow, with nearly 12,000 weekday passengers on average, and the system is keeping more than 99 percent service reliability - this is a big reason more locals and visitors are giving it a try.
Skyline also got a major boost in October 2025 with the opening of Segment 2. This phase added four new stations and five miles of service, including stops serving Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Daniel K Inouye International Airport, Mapunapuna, and the Kalihi Transit Center at Middle Street.
The momentum is not slowing down, construction is now underway on Segment 3, which will extend service toward Iwilei, Chinatown, Downtown Honolulu, and the Civic Center in Kakaako.
