Wildlife LOOKOUT! urges Hawaiʻi residents to take action Wildfire LOOKOUT! launches statewide to help Hawaiʻi stay ready. Learn why rain can raise summer risk, plus easy steps to protect your home.

HONOLULU (HI Now) - As Hawaiʻi heads into the hot summer months, the annual Wildfire LOOKOUT! campaign launched on June 30, bringing together organizations across Hawaiʻi in a unified effort.

The goal is to help residents stay aware, get prepared, and take action before a wildfire occurs. Wildfire risk remains a year-round concern across the islands. Nearly all wildfires in Hawaiʻi are caused by human activities, and most are preventable.

Wildfire LOOKOUT! is coordinated by the Hawaiʻi Wildfire Management Organization and the Hawaiʻi Division of Forestry and Wildlife, in partnership with more than three dozen organizations, including county fire departments, emergency management agencies, state and federal land managers, utilities, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and community groups.

Nani Barretto, co-executive director of the Hawaiʻi Wildfire Management Organization and Jason Scanlan, senior project manager for wildfire and risk at Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha discuss the impact of rain from recent storms and what residents can do now to help protect their homes, ʻohana and communities.
