HONOLULU (HI Now) - Hawaii’s kupuna deserve the best, and this weekend is all about making sure they get it. The Hawaii Active Senior Expo is coming to the Hawaii Convention Center on Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and it is completely free to attend. With over 80 vendors covering everything from financial planning and Medicare to long-term care resources, this is a one-stop community event designed to help seniors and their families get informed, get connected, and get prepared.

One of the biggest highlights of the weekend is a live pickleball tournament happening right inside the Convention Center. With 274 registered players competing on eight courts across men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, the energy is going to be electric. Registration filled up within the first two weeks, which tells you everything you need to know about how popular this sport has become, especially among Hawaii’s active senior community. And if you have never picked up a paddle before, no worries. There will also be two open courts where anyone can walk up, hit a ball around, and see what all the buzz is about. Pickleball is easy to learn, super social, and you can get a great workout in just 15 minutes.

Beyond the courts, the expo is packed with meaningful resources for families navigating senior care. Hale Nani Rehabilitation will be on-site with a booth and is also hosting a seminar on Sunday morning from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. covering skilled nursing, short-term rehab, long-term care, and hospice options. The team at Hale Nani wants families to come in and talk story, because getting a roadmap before you need one, whether that means understanding advanced health care directives, financial documents, or Medicare and Medicaid, can make all the difference. As they put it, every family situation is a little bit different, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to caring for your loved ones.

The best part? Admission is free, and if you arrive early enough, there is a free gift waiting at the door while supplies last. Head to HawaiiActiveSeniors.com to register so organizers know you are coming, and learn more about everything happening this weekend at the Hawaii Convention Center.
