HONOLULU (HI Now) - Honolulu-based mixed reality company Trigger XR is taking cutting-edge technology from the entertainment world and applying it to military training. CEO Jason Yim appeared on HI Now Daily to explain how his company, which has worked on Star Wars, Spider-Man, Avengers, NASCAR, and Mercedes F1, is now using AI smart glasses and XR tools to train soldiers in innovative ways. Trigger XR works across the full spectrum from virtual reality to augmented reality, using devices ranging from VR headsets to the latest AI-powered smart glasses.
A key turning point came through the Hawaii Wave Picture Incubator program, which helped bridge the gap between the company’s commercial tech experience and the world of military contracting. While the team had deep XR knowledge, they knew little about military operations. The incubator connected them with mentors who educated them step by step. Trigger XR’s early access to hardware and software, sometimes six months to a year ahead of competitors, through partnerships with Meta, Google, and Android XR gives them a significant competitive edge.
Yim showcased devices including fully immersive VR headsets and AI glasses that provide real-time advice, translation, and navigation. First-person immersive training boasts retention rates of 80–90%, compared to just 10% for print-based learning. Trigger XR is also expanding into automotive military training, leveraging partnerships with Honda and Nissan.
