HONOLULU (HI Now) - When Ms. Carol Okutani moved to 15 Craigside, she expected a quieter, calmer chapter of life. What she found instead was an unexpected season of growth, purpose and joy.
Through the community’s Sounds of Craigside program, Okutain discovered a passion for performing and teaching Taiko drumming, not only to fellow residents but also to those in the Health Care Center. Chief Operating Officer Bree Komagome says Ms. Okutani embodies the mission of the Arcadia Family of Companies, which is to enrich the lives of Hawaii’s kupuna and provide communities where they thrive with purpose.
Ms. Okutani’s story challenges the common misperception that moving into a senior living community means slowing down. At 15 Craigside, residents and staff alike say life does not wind down; it opens up. Both women encourage others not to wait to begin their next chapter, saying the possibilities are endless when surrounded by a community that values, supports and deeply cares for you.
