Hawai‘i Opera Theatre brings the world’s first professional Hawaiian opera to the stage this Friday Hawaii Opera Theatre premieres "Kamalehua: The Sheltering Tree," the world's first professional Hawaiian opera, this Friday on the Big Island.

HONOLULU (HI Now) - Hawai‘i Opera Theatre is making history with the world premiere of “Kamalehua: The Sheltering Tree,” the first professional Hawaiian opera, opening Friday on Oahu. Inspired by real historical events, the production features lead performers Leslie Goldman, Blythe Kelsey and Tasha Koontz, accompanied by pianist Ronny Michael Greenberg. The opera brings to life powerful stories rooted in Hawaiian history and culture, staying true to the company’s mission that opera is for everyone.
