HONOLULU (HI Now) - Hawaii Opera Theatre presents the world premiere ofKamalehua: The Sheltering Tree, a new opera telling the story of Timoteo Ha’alilio and his historic journey to gain sovereignty for the Kingdom of Hawai’i. Native Hawaiian soprano Tasha Hokuao Koontz returns to her birthplace to debut the role of Hana Hooper Ha’alilio, making the production a deeply personal and culturally significant homecoming.
