HONOLULU (HI Now) - Col. Rachel Sullivan, garrison commander of U.S. Army Garrison Hawaiʻi, joined HI Now Daily to discuss the military’s response to a series of Kona Low storms that impacted communities across Oʻahu since mid-March 2026. Sullivan outlined how Army Garrison Hawaiʻi and the 25th Infantry Division deployed active-duty units with cargo trucks and rubber boats to move people and supplies in flooded areas. The Army also worked in coordination with the Hawaiʻi National Guard, state agencies, county officials and Navy partners to provide real-time support. Among the key efforts highlighted was the opening of Kolekole Pass in coordination with the state and Navy partners to restore connectivity for West Oʻahu communities. The Army also identified on-base lodging to provide short-term housing for displaced residents.
