Bishop Museum to open Ea Mai ʻEiwa exhibition celebrating hula traditions Bishop Museum opens Ea Mai ʻEiwa exhibition April 18 featuring Hilo artists whose work is rooted in hula ʻaihaʻa and Native Hawaiian culture.

HONOLULU (HI Now) - Bishop Museum will open its new exhibition “Ea Mai ʻEiwa: Patterns of Practice” on April 18. The exhibition features the work of Nālani Kanakaʻole, Sig Zane, and Kūhaʻoʻimaikalani Zane, a Hilo-based family of artists whose creative practices are deeply rooted in hula ʻaihaʻa. The exhibition brings together visual art, fashion and textile design, photography, and items from Bishop Museum’s collections to create immersive installations. Visitors will see themes of migration, community resilience, and environmental stewardship, all expressed through a Native Hawaiian lens. The exhibition opens during Merrie Monarch season and demonstrates how hula continues to inspire and shape creative expression today.
