HONOLULU (HI Now) - University of Hawaii faculty across all 10 campuses are leading research projects that bring $1.1 billion in active funding to the state. Interim Vice President for Research and Innovation Chad Walton said most funding comes from federal agencies including the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and NASA. Research projects include the Hawaii Mesonet weather monitoring system, invasive species control efforts targeting the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle, and weather-based irrigation systems to help farmers manage water efficiently and strengthen food security.
