HONOLULU (HI Now) - Freya was a young, high-energy dog who loved to run, play, and train… until something strange began happening. Out of nowhere, she would yelp in pain, lift her back leg, and then moments later act completely normal. Her owner, Shantell, knew something deeper was going on, but the cause remained a mystery.
After months of uncertainty, Freya was referred to VERC, home to Hawaii’s only board-certified veterinary neurologist, Dr. Baye Williamson, and the state’s only MRI for pets. What the team discovered would finally explain her pain and lead to a road to recovery.
With advanced care and collaboration between Dr. Williamson and her mentor, Dr. Carrie Jurney, Freya underwent a specialized spinal procedure. Her recovery was faster than anyone imagined, and today she is completely pain-free, back to her playful, energetic self.
Freya’s journey is a powerful reminder: when something seems off, trust your instincts… and sometimes the answer is closer than you think.
