Inside INDOPACOM: How Hawaiʻi anchors U.S. security across the Indo-Pacific Major General Faurot breaks down INDOPACOM's mission, Hawaiʻi's strategic role, and how the military is adapting to modern threats across the Indo-Pacific.

HONOLULU (HI Now) - U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, known as INDOPACOM, is the military’s largest geographic command — and Hawaiʻi sits at its center. Major General Christopher Faurot, Mobilization Assistant to the INDOPACOM Commander, breaks down what the command actually does, why the islands are a strategic anchor for the Pacific, and how the military is evolving to meet modern threats in cyber, space, and AI. He also speaks to the importance of alliances with nations like Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the Philippines, explaining that no single country can manage the region’s challenges alone. On the local side, Faurot — a Native Hawaiian and Damien High School alumnus — reflects on how his roots shape his leadership and how INDOPACOM works to operate with respect for Hawaiʻi’s culture and community. He also touches on the growing role of advanced manufacturing in supporting military readiness while creating potential career pathways for local residents.
