HONOLULU (HI Now) - The University of Hawaiʻi Professional Assembly (UHPA) is spotlighting the impactful work of the Native Hawaiian Center of Excellence at the UH John A. Burns School of Medicine. Led by Dr. Kelsea Kanoho Hosoda, the program is helping address Hawaiʻi’s physician shortage by mentoring and supporting local students committed to serving rural communities and Native Hawaiian populations.
Through culturally grounded guidance, academic support, and mentorship, the center is building a stronger, homegrown physician workforce for the state. UHPA Executive Director Christian Fern says sustaining programs like this ensures faculty can continue vital research, instruction, and community service that benefit all of Hawaiʻi.
