HONOLULU (HI Now) - Since 2006, Teach for America Hawai‘i has been finding and developing extraordinary leaders in our most under-resourced public schools. As TFA Hawai‘i embarks on its 20th anniversary, we take a look at some of its successes and celebrate its partnership with the DOE.
In this segment, we sit down with Jill Baldemor, Teach For America’s Senior Vice President and former Hawai‘i Executive Director of 18 years. Jill shares how a small group of local leaders helped launch the program, how it has grown into a statewide network of more than 600 educators and leaders, and how new Executive Director Meilan Akaka Manfre is guiding TFA into its next chapter focused on literacy and innovation. She also teases the upcoming 20th Anniversary celebration at the ʻAlohilani Resort on April 16, honoring the people and partnerships that shaped two decades of impact.
