HONOLULU (HI Now) - From Waimānalo at the Nation of Hawaiʻi, the Transpacific Volleyball Championship brings together athletes and spectators from Hawaiʻi, the U.S., the Marshall Islands, and beyond. The event blends high-level competition with cultural learning, ʻāina connection, and community service. Community leaders Uncle Bumpy Kanahele, Brandon Ava, and Kelly Frank discuss restoring sustainable communities through the ahupuaʻa system and the importance of kuleana. Matt Capella of Olympic Solidarity for the Marshall Islands shares how cultural exchange and ʻāina work are shaping young athletes for opportunities beyond sport. The public is invited to participate in monthly ʻĀina Day volunteer workdays and learn more through Seven Gen Culture.
