HONOLULU (HI Now) -The Hawaiʻi Dementia Initiative, a diverse coalition passionate about all things dementia, is committed to embracing and supporting Hawaiʻi’s people affected by Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias. This includes promoting prevention, early detection, and aiming for the best quality of life while holding onto the hope of a cure. Director Caroline Cadirao highlights the importance of recognizing early signs of dementia, which is not a normal part of aging, and destigmatizing conversations around brain health.
In recognition of National Caregiving Month, the initiative emphasizes that caregivers are not alone, offering vital advice and resources like the free Caregiver Kits, developed by caregivers for caregivers. These kits provide guiding principles, supply lists, activities, and trusted support resources, all accessible through HawaiiDementia.org
