HONOLULU (HI Now) - Kailua’s Danny Abreu—a 33-year McDonald’s leader turned community builder—has spent 15 years coaching the T‑Ball Yankees, now also coaches flag football with the Kailua Koas, and leads a free Sunday kanikapila open to all. Inspired by his mother Barbara, a longtime genealogist, he co-produced the Portuguese in Hawai‘i documentary and book, met Madeira’s president, and serves as a director for the Portuguese Culture & Historical Center, which is planning a new O‘ahu facility on 6.40 acres donated by Peter and Phyllis Savio (join at portugueseculturehistoricalcenter.org). He continues linking Hawai‘i and Madeira as an ambassador of culture and invites the community to join, volunteer, and play.
