HONOLULU (HI Now) - Giovedi, the Italian-Asian restaurant located in the heart of Chinatown has been named one of Bon Appétit’s “Best New Restaurants of 2025.” The restaurant is one of just twenty across the United States to earn this coveted recognition.

Each year, Bon Appétit’s editors and writers travel the country in search of the most exciting, creative and delicious new restaurants. From thousands of contenders, only 20 are selected for the annual list released each fall which has become one of the most influential spotlights in the dining world. To be recognized is not only an affirmation of the restaurant’s craft, but also a defining moment that can shape the national conversation about food and culture. For Honolulu, the recognition is significant – the last Hawaii restaurant to be included was Lineage (Maui) in 2019.

“This moment is bigger than us,” says Jennifer Akiyoshi, Managing Partner, Giovedi, “It’s about affirming Hawaii’s role as a driving force in America’s contemporary food culture and acknowledging the culinary and hospitality talent of our team at Giovedi. We’re so proud to share this recognition with our team and community.”

Giovedi’s menu blends Italian technique with Asian flavors, with standout dishes that highlights the restaurant’s creativity such as Prosciutto San Daniele served with a Vietnamese sesame donut or a reimagined mapo tofu – a gnocchi with beef cheek ragu seasoned with doubanjiang and Szechuan pepper, paying homage to the dish’s roots.

With Bon Appetit’s spotlight, Giovedi joins a select group of restaurants that define the state of dining in America today – and proudly represents Honolulu on a global stage.
