HONOLULU (HI Now) - The new Apple TV series Chief of War is generating excitement across Hawaiʻi as it prepares for its global debut. Centered on the epic true story of King Kamehameha, the show is a cultural milestone—crafted by Native Hawaiians and produced from the inside out to honor and authentically represent the stories, language, and traditions of Hawaiʻi. Producer Brian Keaulana, alongside other local talent, emphasized how the show not only tells indigenous stories on indigenous terms but also provides a powerful platform to educate viewers and inspire future generations. The nonprofit, ICANN (International Cultural Arts Network), is working to elevate Native Hawaiian and Polynesian voices in all aspects of filmmaking—from acting and writing to directing and producing. The project is rooted in cultural integrity, community collaboration, and a vision for a self-determined Hawaiian narrative in global media.
