HONOLULU (HI Now) - HI Now Daily is proud to introduce a new Hawaiian language segment, hosted by Keʻalohi and Kaʻiuokalani Damas, dedicated to celebrating and sharing ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi with viewers across the islands.
This exciting new weekly series opens with a heartfelt greeting from the hosts, who share a bit about themselves and their connection to place — from Waiʻanae to Hilo, Mānoa to Waiāhole. Their bond, strengthened through years of collaboration at events like the Merrie Monarch Festival, is now helping inspire a broader cultural initiative on Hawai‘i’s airwaves.
The first episode offers a short Hawaiian language lesson on greetings and self-introduction, starting with one of the most well-known Hawaiian words: aloha. Viewers learn the correct use of various greetings based on the number of people addressed — like Aloha ʻoe, Aloha kāua, or Aloha kākou — as well as how to introduce one’s place of origin, current home, and name.
With clarity, warmth, and intention, this new segment aims to strengthen the use and understanding of the Hawaiian language in everyday life, one episode at a time.
