HONOLULU (HI Now) - From indie music to island brews, there’s so much to celebrate and support right here in Hawai’i. Ragamuffs just dropped her latest music video for “Glenny Said,” now live on YouTube. The song is a playful, lighthearted take on the dating scene, using sports as a metaphor for figuring out who’s the right fit. Ragamuffs shared that, unlike her previous videos, this one is more of a visualizer that challenged her physically—no small feat for someone who admits she’s “not sporty at all!” Despite unexpected obstacles during filming, the final product captures the ups and downs of dating with a charming, relatable vibe.

If Ragamuffs looks familiar, you might recognize her from opening sets for bands like Wallows, Mom Jeans, TV Girl, Jimmy Eat World, The Psychedelic Furs, Men I Trust, and Mac DeMarco. Reflecting on these experiences, she says the indie scene’s down-to-earth, authentic vibe has been a huge influence. “None of the artists carried a ‘diva’ attitude,” she shares. “Success comes from hard work and passion.” A particularly memorable moment was performing at the Wallows show—one of her favorite bands—which pushed her creatively and emotionally.

Since launching her first recordings in 2017, Ragamuffs’ journey as an independent artist has been both rewarding and challenging. With no formal music industry background, she’s had to learn the ropes—from finances and bookings to leading her band and honing her music skills. As a queer Asian American woman from Hawai’i, representation and building an inclusive community motivate her. “Music puts me out of my comfort zone, and I love learning new things,” she says.

Ragamuffs has two new singles on the way: “I Wish I Cared” and “Talk to Me,” so keep an eye on her social media for release dates. She’s also looking forward to performing with her full band again as these new songs roll out. In the meantime, you can catch Ragamuffs playing live around Honolulu at favorite spots like White Sands Hotel, 1938 Indochine, and Aloha Beer. Want to book her for your next event? She’s open to playing a wider variety of shows across Hawai’i. You can stream Ragamuffs’ music now on all platforms—just search for “Ragamuffs” and follow her journey!

This weekend, Kona Brewing Hawai’i is reminding us to mālama kai in honor of World Oceans Day. Their commitment to sustainability goes beyond brewing—by investing in solar power, water conservation, and sustainable seafood at their pubs, Kona Brewing is helping protect the environment that makes Hawai’i special.
