Celebrating 250 Years: USARPAC’s Mission, Community Outreach, and Army Heritage Week in Hawai‘i

U.S. Army Pacific celebrates 250 Years We’re taking a closer look at the U.S. Army Pacific — what it is, what it does, and why its presence matters both globally and right here in Hawai’i.

HONOLULU (HI Now) - As a bridge between Hawai’i’s communities and the military, the Military and Community Relations Office (MACRO) helps bring groups together for meaningful conversations about shared spaces, priorities, and opportunities. While MACRO isn’t part of today’s interview, they’ve played a vital role in making this conversation possible.

Joining us today is Major General James Bartholomees, Chief of Staff for U.S. Army Pacific, to talk about USARPAC’s mission, its role in strengthening regional partnerships, and its commitment to the people of Hawai’i. We’ll also learn about Army Heritage Week, an opportunity for Hawai’i residents to explore military history, meet local soldiers and families, and join in the celebration.

As the Army celebrates 250 years of service, Major General Bartholomees shares that this milestone is not only about looking back—it’s also about recommitting to USARPAC’s mission and to the communities they serve, including right here in the islands. He highlights how the Indo-Pacific has always played a crucial role in the Army’s history and how Hawai’i continues to be a strategic gateway to the region.

USARPAC oversees Army operations across the Indo-Pacific, engaging with 36 partner nations and maintaining peace, deterring aggression, and responding quickly to any crisis. And while Hawai’i’s location is key to this global mission, Major General Bartholomees emphasizes that Hawai’i’s communities and their aloha spirit are just as important.

For those looking to get involved, Army Heritage Week is the perfect chance to connect with soldiers, explore military vehicles and equipment, and learn more about the Army’s impact here and around the world. From community days to wellness fairs and the Army Birthday Ball, it’s a time to say Mahalo and celebrate the Army’s proud history.
