HONOLULU (HI Now) - As Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia prepare to embark on their three-year, 43,000-nautical mile journey across the Pacific for the Moananuiākea Voyage, the Hilo community is invited to come together for a rare and heartfelt send-off.
Public Dockside Engagement at Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo
- Grand Naniloa Hotel, A Doubletree by Hilton
- Wednesday, May 21 & Thursday, May 22 from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
This is your chance to meet the crew, learn about traditional Polynesian navigation, and connect with the cultural and environmental mission that has made Hōkūleʻa a global symbol of hope, sustainability, and Hawaiian pride.
Hosted by the County of Hawaiʻi, Island of Hawaiʻi Visitors Bureau, Grand Naniloa Hotel, and the Hilo Community, this dockside event is part of Hilo’s final celebration before the canoes set sail for French Polynesia. This is the last stop on the Pae ʻĀina Statewide Sail before Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia leave Hawaiʻi for the open ocean.
Make it a full cultural experience with a stay at Grand Naniloa Hotel, Hilo’s Home of Hospitality. Special Kamaʻāina rates start at just $179 per night. After visiting the canoes, enjoy a waterfront dinner at Ka Lihikai Restaurant & Bar for local flavors and sweeping views. See special offers here!
