HONOLULU (HI Now) - Waimea-born artist Ryan Hooley is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about names in contemporary Hawaiian music. His debut, self-titled album Ryan Hooey, released in 2024, has earned him a nomination for the 2025 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for Contemporary Album of the Year. The album, available now on all digital streaming platforms, showcases Ryan’s heartfelt songwriting, acoustic sensibilities, and a fresh voice that feels deeply rooted in island life and identity.

A self-taught guitarist since the age of 9, Ryan’s musical path has always been self-driven, shaped by the landscapes and stories of Hawaiʻi. One of the most unforgettable moments from his creative journey happened during a photoshoot in the mountains near his home in Waimea. As he played guitar, a herd of wild horses emerged from behind and quietly surrounded him, listening. The moment was so surreal it was captured in a photo—an image that symbolizes the natural, magnetic energy of his music.
