Waimānalo Kūpuna Club brings the fun after 55 Learn how you can join a parks and recreation kūpuna club to have fun after 55!

HONOLULU (HI Now) - Every Tuesday at 9:30 AM, the Waimānalo Senior Citizens Club gathers at Waimānalo District Park to laugh, learn, and live life to the fullest. Part of the Honolulu Parks and Recreation Kūpuna Clubs program, the Waimānalo Seniors are a shining example of how staying active—both socially and physically—can bring real joy and meaning to life after 55.

A Club with Heart

Our kūpuna aren’t just showing up—they’re showing out! Club members actively participate in beloved community traditions like the Waimānalo Christmas Parade, the Craft and Country Fair, the Senior Valentine Dance, and the annual Fun Walk. We also sew and share handmade footballs to pass out to our keiki, giving back to the next generation in a fun and heartfelt way.

More Than Just a Weekly Meet-Up

Beyond the weekly gatherings, the club plays a vital role in enriching the lives of its members. We believe that staying engaged—physically, mentally, and emotionally—adds years to life and life to years. Whether it’s line dancing, gentle exercise, or just catching up with friends, these activities help keep our kūpuna connected to their community and to each other.

A shining example of this connection is the dedication of the Multipurpose Room at Waimānalo District Park to Auntie Gracie—a beloved former Recreation Director, devoted club member, and true pillar of the community.

A Gift to Families

Family members often tell us how much the club means to their loved ones. Many say it gives their parents something to look forward to every week—whether it’s the regular Tuesday gatherings or the many special events throughout the year.

Learning for Life

We also bring in guest speakers to help our kūpuna stay informed and empowered. Topics range from fraud prevention and personal safety, to technology tips, healthy eating, and staying active through movement and dance.
