HONOLULU (HI Now) - Hawaii’s soccer scene just got an exciting new addition! Urban Soccer Hawaii, the island’s first indoor, club-neutral soccer facility, is changing the game—literally. When people hear Hawaii Green Infrastructure Authority, they often think about solar financing. But in 2022, HGIA expanded its impact by launching the HI-CAP Collateral Support Program, a lender-driven initiative designed to help small businesses overcome financing barriers.

“Urban Soccer is exactly the type of business that Congress intended to support,” explains Valerie Kubota, Residential Program Manager at HGIA. “It’s not only a new business, but a completely new concept for Hawaii.”

Through HI-CAP, participating lenders—like Central Pacific Bank—receive cash collateral to help secure loans for small businesses and nonprofits. In the wake of the Lahaina wildfires, the program has expanded its support, offering up to 50% cash collateral on loans for businesses aiding Maui’s economic recovery.

For entrepreneurs seeking funding, the process is simple: apply through a participating lender, including Feed the Hunger Fund, Mission Driven Finance, Afterglow Climate Justice Fund, and Central Pacific Bank.

For Cody Kuge, Managing Director of Urban Soccer Hawaii, the inspiration for an indoor soccer space came from a love of the game and a desire to elevate player development in Hawaii.
