HONOLULU (HI Now) - The American Red Cross of Hawaii is proud to recognize our volunteers for their hardwork, dedication, and generosity. Over 90% of the work of the red cross is done by volunteers, and what they do brings help, and hope to those in need. Their efforts are at the heart of the red cross mission of alleviating human suffering in the face of disaster.
Every year, march is recognized nationally as red cross month; and it’s an opportunity for us to spotlight one person from each county who has gone above and beyond in their service.
Please join us in recognizing Richard Galope as the Oahu Volunteer of the Year for 2025!
Richard’s humor, enthusiasm and personality enter the room long before he crosses the threshold. He has an energy and willingness to serve that make him a welcome addition to our disaster response, volunteer services, and service to the armed forces teams. He is often heard saying “I’ll do whatever you need me to do” and he has proven to be as good as his word.
Notably, Richard has requested one of the more difficult assignments, visiting the Palliative Care Ward at Tripler army medical center. His kind words and friendly demeanor quickly connect him to patients receiving end-of-life care and help provide comfort and companionship when needed.
