C. S. Wo & Sons celebrates 116 years of family and a legacy in the furniture industry HI Now Daily is live at C. S. Wo to explore how it grew from a general store into a furniture empire, evolving through generations with new brands and expansion

HONOLULU (HI Now) - C. S. Wo’s legacy began in 1909 when Ching Sing Wo opened a general store on King Street. In the 1940s, his son Robert Wo pursued his education at Stanford and returned home in 1946 to help grow the family business. By 1949, the company adapted to Hawaii’s largest dock strike by manufacturing its own furniture. Expansion followed with the acquisition of Vans Furniture in 1953 and a move to Kapiolani in 1958. Over the years, the business continued to evolve, adding BJ Furniture in 1965 and welcoming the next generation of family leadership in the 1970s.

The 1980s saw the launch of HomeWorld, followed by further growth in 2011 as the Hawaii licensee for Ashley stores. Innovation continued with the launch of Red Knot in 2014, catering to millennials, and the establishment of a Kapolei facility in 2016. Most recently, in 2023, C. S. Wo introduced its latest brand, APT, marking over a century of evolution and commitment to quality furniture.
