Honolulu Kūpuna Shed: Builds Community, Creativity, and Connection HI Now learns what’s been happening at the Honolulu Kūpuna Shed!

HONOLULU (HI Now) - As kūpuna retire and lose close connections, they may face loneliness, inactivity, and health issues, leading to depression and shorter lives. To address this, the first Men’s Shed was founded in Australia in 1997, growing to over 1,000 in Australia and 2,000 worldwide.

Sheds offer seniors a space for socialization, creativity, and meaningful activities, helping them stay engaged and connected. They foster friendships, shared skills, and community projects, improving overall well-being.

The first Shed in the U.S. was established in Hawaii, with efforts underway to expand nationwide. The initiative is gaining momentum, with growing interest and support across the country.
