HONOLULU (HI Now) - Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiʻi honors the heritage, embraces diversity, and shares the future. They aspire to co-create a society where a deeper knowledge of one’s heritage and a profound understanding of oneself will enable enlightened connections among all people.

Many of their programs and workshops are geared for participants of all ages and many are attended by kupuna. Volunteers are the backbone of their organization and many kupuna assist them in their daily operations, while getting to hone their technology skills.

They recently held Keiro No Hi (Respect for the Aged Day) programming in September. Keiro no Hi is a Japanese public holiday honoring elderly citizens and falls on the third Monday of September each year. Their program consisted of a half day of free interactive workshops including a fraud & elder scam prevention presentation by Curt Hasegawa of AARP, how to use your smartphone, hanafuda, ukulele, and gentle yoga led by Christy Kokami.
