Sponsored by 2050 Hawaii

The New Hurricane Threat for Hawai’i Dr. Kioni Dudley shares more information on his new film, "The New Hurricane Threat for Hawaii"!

HONOLULU (HI Now) - With seas warming farther and farther north, the spawning area for hurricanes over by Mexico has moved northward, and hurricanes that used to pass a couple of hundred miles below Hawai’i are now headed directly at us. We have 187,000 wooden home and thousands of condominium buildings without strong windows that will be damaged or destroyed even in a Category 1 hurricane. We expect 200,000 to seek shelter on O’ahu, but have shelters for only 100,000. Hurricanes grow stronger every year. We have no shelters for anybody in a Cat 3, 4, or 5 hurricane. We must get government moving on building shelters, helping us to fortify homes, and requiring every newbuilding to be built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane.

Tune in on KGMB Saturday, 9/21 at 6:00 p.m. and on KHNL Sun 9/22 at 9:00 p.m. to watch the film!
