HONOLULU (HI Now) - Just in time for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, one of Maryknoll and Sacred Heart Parish’s oldest campus buildings – Bachelot Memorial Hall – has reopened as the school’s inaugural Performing Arts Center.
Originally dedicated in June 1923, Bachelot Memorial Hall is named after Father Alexis Bachelot, one of the pioneering Catholic missionaries to Hawaii.
In recognition of its cultural and architectural significance, Bachelot Memorial Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The recent renovation, which began in February 2023, is the latest chapter in the building’s storied 101-year history.
A cornerstone of Maryknoll School’s campus since its inception, the building has served multiple purposes – from a gathering space for early parishioners to a hub for various school activities – making it an integral part of both the school’s and the community’s history.
