HONOLULU (HI Now) - With the support of the Hawai’i Technology Development Corporation (HTDC), the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) expanded its footprint to the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center last fall and held more than 100 events in support of HTDC’s mission to foster innovation and technology development to diversify the Hawai’i economy.
PACE is housed within the Shidler the College of Business at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, but serves all 10 UH System campuses, from Kauai to Hawaii Island. At its core, PACE is dedicated to inspiring and empowering our students to be innovative problem-solvers that help diversify our economy by starting their own business or joining an existing one.
All of PACE’s 15+ programs are FREE and open to students from any discipline and background at any of the 10 UH System campuses. PACE holds all of its programs in it’s new innovation center on the second floor of the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center. PACE’s innovation center includes co-working, classroom, and maker spaces, conference rooms and a recording studio. The RISE Center combines PACE’s innovation center with student housing to create a cutting-edge live, learn, work community, the first of its kind in Hawaii, and one of only five across the nation. The RISE Center is also UH Mānoa’s first public-private partnership (P3) housing project.
PACE works collaboratively with HTDC and the other HTDC accelerator grant recipients in order to create a resource pathway for students who graduate and want to continue on their innovation journey. Many of PACE’s alumni go on to participate in local accelerators, like Blue Start ups and Mana Up, and become leaders in our local community. They also take advantage of the many resources offered by HTDC, including HTDC’s SBIR program and co-working space at the Entrepreneurs Sandbox.
If you would like to join PACE’s vibrant community at the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center, sign-up for their newsletter and participate in their programs, which range from speaker series, workshops, to networking events and competitions. PACE’s community members and industry partners are a central part of PACE’s operations - volunteering as a mentor, coach, speaker or judge, collaborating with PACE on programs, and donating to support PACE’s 15+ programs and new initiatives like the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center.
