HONOLULU (HI Now) - With the holiday season behind us, it’s the perfect time to get a head start on a cleaner home. Here are three cleaning tips to start fresh in the new year.

  1. Remove most common stains with baking soda and dish soap: Using a mixture of 1 part baking soda, 4 parts dish soap, and 8 parts hydrogen peroxide. Mix together to form a paste. Apply the paste to your stain, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Wash as normal.
  2. Remove stubborn carpet stains with vinegar: If your looking to remove stains from carpets, use vinegar! Just mix 1 part vinegar, 1 part dish soap, and 4 parts water. Blot the stain, and let it dry. Your stain should be gone in a few hours. This also has the benefit of killing added odors as well.
  3. Use Olive Oil to clean your kitchen appliances and tools: Olive Oil is a great option for cleaning stainless steel pots, pans, and appliances. After cleaning your appliances follow the grain and rub a small amount of olive oil on to the appliance with a microfiber cloth. Use a paper towel to buff, and it shines like new.
  4. Make scrubbing your skin and toilet easier with a drill: Do you have a drill lying around? Pick up a Drill brush power scrubber kit and cleaning faster and easier.
