HireMaui is getting Maui back to work HI Now host Rachel Pacarro learns more about HireMaui and how community partners like Kupu are providing opportunities for displaced workers on Maui!

HONOLULU (HI Now) - HireMaui is a free community initiative to support thousands of residents suddenly left unemployed after the tragic wildfires on Maui. HireMaui provides a chance for displaced workers to get back on their feet and local companies to fill much needed positions.

Kupu is currently working with partners to provide 100 paid positions to Maui residents affected by the wildfires. EŌ Maui is Kupu’s new emergency response program. EŌ Maui’s approach centers on paid positions for impacted residents.

EŌ Maui’s first initiative is a food hub operating in partnership with UH-Maui College Culinary Arts Program. Up to 30 Maui College culinary students will prepare 1,800-2,500 meals daily to feed Maui residents who have transitioned from emergency shelters to hotels and other temporary housing situations. Kupu will ensure that these culinary students will receive hourly pay, a $1,459 Education Award provided by AmeriCorps, and access to health care benefits.
