HONOLULU (HI Now) - In the 1920s, water scarcity on Oahu had reached a tipping point. The Legislature gave the Governor the authority to appoint a commission to address the emergency. This led to the formation of the Honolulu Sewer and Water Commission, which eventually led to establishing the Honolulu Board of Water Supply in 1929.

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply modernized the water distribution system and stopped wasting fresh water. Now, more than 90 years later, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply carries on its important mission and continues to proactively address emerging challenges that threaten our water supply.

Protect Our Aquifer HI is a group of Oʻahu locals based in Aiea who raises awareness and engages with the public regarding the contamination of our drinking water supply.
