Lauren Teruya crowned Miss Hawaii 2022

HONOLULU (HI Now) - The Miss Hawaii Organization (MHO) was founded in 1947 by the Hawaii State Jaycees. Over the past 70 years, the Miss Hawaii Organization has seen significant success in the competition. Both Caroline Sapp and Angela Perez Baraquio have won the Miss America title in 1991 and 2000. Miss Hawaii candidates have traditionally done well in the Miss American Competition, including 17 young women who placed in the Top 15 and 10 young women who received the Miss Congeniality Awards!

Congratulations to the new Miss Hawaii 2022, Lauren Teruya! Lauren’s initiative, Arts for All, is a program that brings the arts into the classroom to help kinesthetic learns succeed in school. “Arts for All was largely inspired by my story. When I was in elementary, I actually struggled in class. As I got involved more with theatre, I realized that the arts is what I needed to understand that I had an intelligence that was different than other people,” says Lauren. Kinesthetic learners are those that need to move and interact with their environment to better understand materials. Lauren hopes to help the next generation succeed through her Arts for All initiative!
