HONOLULU (HI Now) - The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation and Walter A. Dods, Jr. have donated a combined $500,000 to support the construction of the University of Hawaii at Manoa RISE (Residences for Innovative Student Entrepreneurs)project, a world-class innovative entrepreneurship center offering student housing built on the site of the former Atherton YMCA, across from the flagship campus.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, January 13 to commemorate the gift. A classroom in the new RISE building will be named in honor of Walter A. Dods, Jr. to commemorate this important donation and the long-standing support from both Dods and First Hawaiian Bank over the years. A graduate of the Shidler School of Business, Dods is the former chairman and CEO of First Hawaiian Bank. When completed in 2023, RISE will have over 7,000 square feet of multi-purpose co-working, meeting, lab and classroom space as well as 374 dormitory beds for both undergraduate and graduate students. RISE will attract qualified students of all backgrounds and majors under the direction of the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) at University of Manoa’s Shidler College of Business.
